If you have this opportunity, seize the moment! GO! Open up your world, explore and learn all you can, as well as the language.
Travel time can be a small window in people's lives - I would suggest you set this as a worthy goal and DO IT.
Sincerely,
Grace

I wouldn't go to France until you can already speak conversational French. If you don't know any yet it's going to be really difficult. Learning a language by immersion works really well for kids, not so well for adults. The French aren't looking to teach people their language, and that's why so many tourists have bad experiences with the people there. If you learn the language first, at least enough to know what to say at restaurants and the grocery store and things like that, you'll have a much better experience and the French will appreciate your efforts. That was my experience with the country when I went.

I lived in Italy and studied the language there for 2 summers and it was one of the best times of my life. I went to an Italian University for Foreigners. You can probably find one in France pretty easily. A lot of colleges will have study abroad programs that will make this process easier.
Don't listen to anyone that says it's probably a bad idea or France is not right for you. If you want to go, it will certainly be an enriching experience.
If you want to go to Italy the 'Universita per Stranieri' in Perugia, Umbria is absolutely perfect.

Do extensive research on the area you are going to stay, the customs, whats acceptable, whats not acceptable. You can do all this on the web. Google a search and you will find an abundance of information. Also, try to get an electronic language intrepreter, and learn some of the common words and phrases before you go.

Hi!!! That is wonderful! I suggest you enroll in a summer semester abroad. It pays for your flight, flat and class! If you want to learn the language, 3 months is better than one.
