We had our house built 4 years ago and our dogs have made a lot of scratches in our hard wood floor. Is there something I could put on the floor to hide/fill in the scratches and claw marks? or do I need to buff the floor with a buffer? I don't want to have to sand and refinish the floor until we decide to sell the house.
thanks if you an recommend something.

When we had our floors installed last year, we put in unfinished planks and had them sanded/finished. At the time, the finisher said to not put any kind of polish or wax on the floor surface. He even said not to use oil soap (like Murphy's Oil Soap, even though their website says it's okay for urethane finished floors), because it leaves a residue that clogs up the sander if we go to refinish them later.

For scratches and worn areas, he said to clean the area with a mild detergent soap and water, and then reapply a coat of urethane sealer (he gave me what was left over in the can). For really deep scratches, you can get a repair kit at any retailer who sells wood flooring.

BTW - he also said that he recommended lightly sanding and refinishing the floor about every 5 years.

Get your vet or groomer to show you how to safely trim your cat's claws, and that will prevent damage. We have hardwood floors, and I can honestly say that the cats really are not responsible for more than 1% of the scratches. Call me cruel, but I find it hilarious to watch the cats slip and slide a bit on the wood floors, especially after a good mop and wax.
