I'm looking to legally purchase a handgun and live in the state of Maryland. Where can I go to purchase one?

Thanks.

Yes, try a retail gun store or a pawn shop.
Being in Maryland your screwed though, no point in having it for protection because in Maryland you can not carry a gun legally. Unlike in Va my state Maryland does not allow open carry and only issues concealed carry permits under special circumstances like banker types that carry large sums of cash and small business owners dealing in large sums of cash.

If your after a gun for protection due to some incident forget it, move away from Maryland. You can only transport the fire arm with it unloaded, and the amo has to be located in a totally separate inaccessible location from the gun itself, so the gun can be in the glove box and the amo in the trunk, you can not carry it on your person for any reason, it must be in a case un loaded.

You also must be 21 to posses a handgun and 18 for a long-gun (rifle/shotgun).

Go to a gun store. Any information you need should be available there.
