Clean them. Ours only chirp when the back up batteries are low (they are hardwired) or when grease, dust and dirt has accumulated on the inside. We vacuum the insides of ours and then use a grease cutting solution to clean the covers and they stop chirping.

Have you hit the test or reset button on them? With some I think the chirping is kind of like the check engine light in a car -- it's an automatic prompt that reminds you to get them checked out, make sure batteries are good, etc.

If you're sure it's not the batteries, buy new ones. They are inexpensive. Nowadays, people are buying combo smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, which are more expensive but well worth it. Good luck.

Those smoke alarms may have reached the end of their lifespan. Generally you should replace them if they are older than 5 yrs.

Are you sure that they are smoke detectors and not carbon monoxide detectors? They look very similar. Maybe there's carbon monoxide in your house?
