Yes, everything is controlled. I just answered a question on racism and it was immediately removed. Did I say black or something? George Orwells' 1984 is here with ID cards, RF tags and monitoring of all kinds. F*** Yahoo if they delete this answer!

Have we ever had it?

When did the people choose their government?

Recently, the prime minister resigned, and "The Party" chose the next prime minister just as they do in China.
No reference to what the people wanted.

Democracy has as many faces as definitions.

A real democracy has to allow the people to have a say in their own affairs by proposing or opposing legislation.

Political parties should not have a monopoly in lawmaking.

Possibly, but I have a problem. I don't know of anywhere in the world which ever had a true democratic government - and don't point to Switzerland, because I've been here for over 30 years. You can stuff your referendums where the sun doesn't shine - THE GOVERNMENT still does it's own thing.

I truly hope not. That same question is on my mind here in the USA. We have lost so many "freedoms" in the name of protection from terrorism that it is clear the terrorists have won! I have a very good friend living in Thailand. He said that one of the most significant ideas he can give people here in the USA is that Thailand feels much more "free" and encumbering to individual "rights" than what he used to enjoy in the USA. I found that absolutely amazing.

We have been for a while. I always say on this site 'I left a long time ago'. If more people did the same then the government would be left with immigrants and Chavs. Maybe then they would rethink their policies and I could come home.

We are in Wales, the people voted to have a non majority labour goverment and all of a sudden they decide plaid should have a say in how the country is run. correct me if i'm wrong but being a democractic country if the people wanted Plaid to have power they would have voted them the majority-it's a nanny state.

It's not the democracy, it's the peoples misuse of it.

Yes we are. Democracy is the current pinnicle of political systems that give the most people the most say in who runs our administrations. However, with the latest technology such as the internet we are more connected than ever before. In the past Democracy has been a "media-ocracy" or mediocracy for short. We all know that whoever Murdoch backs gets in. So, in the 1980s we only had the media to tell us what was going on. They constantly put their own slant on it. Politics became bland and each party had exactly the same policies. In fact we had the blue Conservatives the red conservities and the yellow Conservatives. Even now the MP s call it "legislation by the Daily Mail".
When the Daily Mail, "the paper of little conservatives", run a campaign the huge amount of letters the MP s get gives them little choice but to respond or be out of power and in opposition at the next election. Now we have the beginings of social media we are talking more to each other and so an alternative dialogue is being discussed for the first time since the 1960 s. Even when Corbyn got elected and started saying similar stuff that some conservative MP s were expousing in the 1950 s he was branded as "Militant Tendancy" a term we havnt seen since the early 1990 s.
Democracy as it is doesnt serve us any more. So, we are seeing the death of democracy in the same way Monarchy died. Monarchy works when the King serves the people. Kings didnt do that so we overthrew it. In the same way eventually we will overthrow democracy to replace it with something else. We dont know what that is yet. The discussion has just started.
