I have been at my present company for 7 years. I am an assistant manager. The general manager went on maternity leave, and will be out for 3months. They sent a guy over who is a manager in training to take her place. I am to all of the paper work because he does not know how, but he is in charge.
I sent my regional an email asking why he feels I cannot run the place for three months. I have sent him pages, as well as left messages on cell phone and two months later I have still not heard from him. I am an african american woman, and the only african american in my region. I would like to know if you think this is some sort of discrimination

Okay obviously some people did not fully understand my statement. The gentlemen they sent over is training to be a manager. after his traing he will become an assistant then a manager. I have been an assistant there for 3 years. I am to do all the paper work, but he will be in charge therefore he gets the bigger salary. When asked why they feel I am not qualified I never got a response.

I think your regional is a moron for avoiding giving you the answers which you so rightly deserve... but the company could have other reasons for sending someone there...
Why are you so resentful about it?

Are you a manager in training? Just because they didn't choose you to run the office doesn't mean there is discrimination involved. It would only be discrimination if the reason he didn't put you in charge was because you are african american or female. It's really impossible for us or you to know if that was the reason, unless he's told you that was the reason, which I highly doubt.
If you're upset about this I'd suggest trying to get into the management training program instead of trying to come up with an excuse, discrimination, for why you weren't chosen. If you're already in the management training program, and at about the same stage in the program as the guy they sent over, then I'd ask what it is that you need to do/prove to be put in a position of leadership.

Since the guy they sent over is a manager-in-training, that's how they would explain it: hands on training without having to shadow a manager who is already there. It could be discrimination, but based on the fact situation, they have a pretty good explanation for why you didn't get the position. Sorry to hear that.

Can't really tell with the information you gave.
1. Has the guy in charge been with the company longer then you?
2. Does the guy in charge have a managment or sales degrere that you do not have?
3. Does your company have management training that he has done and you haven't?

YES!! Not only because you are a african american woman
but also because it's not fair I say let him do his own paper work then they will see how under calified he really is
and I' m sure you don't get extra pay for training someone to do a job you could have done in the first place.

What are the qualifications in order for someone to occupy that position ? Secondly, are you qualified for it ? Before you scream discrimination I´d respectfully suggest that you inform yourself with the necessary information regarding the occupation of of the applied position.

no you are being sencitive i would do the same because its only for 3 months and to let you do her job then when its time to give the job back it could get ugly or they could lose you if it goes to your head. Its in the best intrest of the company.
