i would like to celebrate samhain, but I have to work, so I suggested a "Halloween party" at work, but my store manager said that the holiday was frivilous and meaningless, and that really upset me. I would like to educate her more about my belief system. I'm still planning to have a celebration at work, for fun and eduational purposes, and I need suggestions on what food to bring ( I'm not just the only pagan at work, but I'm also the only vegan too.) I'm thinking about bringing vegan apple cider cupcakes, but I'm not sure on what else to bring.

you should probably be careful when you say you want to educate your coworkers on your beliefs, as people generally prefer to keep their religion and workplace separate, consider this, would you want one of your christian coworkers to start to educate you on their religious beliefs? i think you might be better off just telling your manger that in your belief system that samhain is very important, and that was why you suggested the Halloween party as a way for you and other coworkers to celebrate the holiday together without religious overtones, who knows, when your manager realizes that you wanted to have the party for a reason other than blowing off work, they might just endorse it.

You should also make sure that such a celebration or party won't get you in trouble since your boss obviously doesn't approve of the holiday. Having parties of any kind at most jobsites require the supervisor or manager's permission. I'd also be careful about what you're opening yourself up to in regards to educating others about your belief system. Some people just aren't ready (nor will they ever be) to learn more about pagan beliefs and it could cause you problems/issues later on.

As for food, finger foods and easy prep foods are the way to go. The cupcakes you mentioned sound yummy. You could also make pumpkin bread and scones and carrot cake. I'm also making a cream of potato soup to go with my Samhain dinner -- it can be served warm or cold in small bowls or cups and with parsley on top, it's a very attractive presentation.

Candied apples? Baked pumpkin seeds? Corn cakes?

I would also suggest asking permission to dress up for the day. :-D Have fun!
