Just like any other state in the Union, Hawaii and Alaska have the same "rights" as any United States citizen, deserves.

Get a load of this "top contributor" above me. The truth is, the electoral college ENSURES that votes from Alaska and Hawaii count, as do the few from New Mexico where I live. As close as the vote has been in the past few elections, the three electoral votes from Alaska could actually topple the results, even if they've already been broadcast by today's jump-the-gun media, who have been proven off-sides several times, even way back during Truman's times. (The headline "Dewey Beats Truman" comes to mind...)

I'm guessing this character above me lives in a state with a high population.

Alaska Electoral Votes

No they don't.

By the time their polls close the election results are already being broadcast on the major networks.

I would like to see the "electorial College" scrapped and the popular vote in it place. That way the election wouldn't be over until the last vote was counted.

(The electrorial college was necessary when it took days/weeks for representatives of the states to travel through the backwaters of some states to get their states votes counted. In the electronic age, they know in Singapore about two nano seconds afetr I touch the "Enter" key to buy that pirated DVD, now don't they.)

g-day!

Alaska traditonally Republican, 3 electoral votes

Hawaii traditionally Democrat, 4 electoral votes

given that they are small states that usually are pretty reliable to their respective side, they usuallu don't play too much of a role but they do count toward the 270 EVs needed to win

a reporter joked that all of the reporters were wishing hawaii was a swing state so they would just HAVE to go down there to report on it

Absolutely since small population states such as Hawaii and Alaska actually have more electoral votes than just their population alone would justify.

Yes they do count but unless their electoral votes are enough to sway or change the outcome, you pretty much never hear about them. They are always of the last to report and is usually after the announcement of the new "knucklehead" has been made.

Only if the Electoral College is evenly divided...But it's usually not a close call in either state...so they pretty much cancel each other out.
