i have a 2002 chevy malibu and lately its been heating up. The coolant light turned on the other day so i stoped and filled the coolant resevior up. But the next day after i filled it up it overheated. I don't know why, i was driving normally like i always do. I parked it and pushed it to a parking spot and left it there. its been a couple days now and I'm trying to put coolant in the resevior so i could take it to a shop but everytime i fill it up, a couple minutes later the coolants gone. I checked under the car to see if its leaking but its not and I checked the oil to see if its a broked gasket but the oil is fine. I don't know where its going. The autoshop only 5 miles away so thats all I need to take it to, where is the coolant going and what do i do in order for me to drive my car?

You are mostly likely burning the coolant through the engine. The engine should be running a little rough. It sounds like a head gasket or a leaking intake manifold gasket.

Fill it full of water and drive it the 5 miles to the repair shop. You should be able to get that far with a cold engine to start. Either that or call the shop and have them tow it.

good luck.

Fill your radiator with the coolant instead of the reservoir. Your radiator will not fill by putting coolant in the reservoir. It's best to fill it before you start the car when it's cold, then start the car and watch the level in the radiator as the car heats up. Once the thermostat valve opens, the liquid will begin to move and the level will drop a little. Add coolant to fill it up, then replace the radiator cap. After that, fill up the reservoir.

Your oil can look ok even with a duff head gasket. The dead giveaway is a creamy emulsion on the inside of the oil filler cap.

With engine cool take off radiator cap and fill radiator. Drive your car to a RADIATOR SHOP, not an auto repair, you will get all kinds of things wrong, as you do here. Go to RADIATOR SHOP.

It could be leaking into the engine thru the headgasket or something. I remember before my headgasket blew my car would constantly heat up. Is it burning white smoke?? Also look at your oil. Is it milky looking like cappucino coloring?

if your not leakin any fluid out the bottom, it sounds like a head gasket, are you blowing white smoke out the exhaust? If so you have a head gasket problem.
