Yes.

John 21:15-17 states:

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."

He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.

Matthew 16:17-19 states:

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the
whole flock.

The Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 C.E. (about 10 years after the last book of the New Testament was written), when the Greek term "Katholikos" (meaning universal) appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

"Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church."

We do not know how long they had been using the term "Catholic" before it was included in this letter.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 C.E. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 880-882: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p4.htm#880 and http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07644a.htm

With love in Christ.

The church was established by his followers after his mortal death.
The Roman Catholic Church is one branch of Christianity. Other early denominations include the Orthodox Church (Greek Orthodox and separate Eastern Orthodox) and the Coptic Church in Egypt.
Protestant religions began within the Roman Catholic Church but separated from it.

No , Jesus did not start the Catholic church. He started a different church that was changed and bended into the Catholic church which dominated the world during the apostasy. The Catholic church would not have survived if it was founded by Jesus and he left no apostles or teachers to keep it straight.

No. His life (death, resurrection, etc.) is (supposed to be) the basis all Christian faiths are based upon. Roman Catholicism is just one of them - it was "founded" by Saints Peter then Paul a couple hundred years after his death. They, and others, wrote the Bible, allegedly based on His teachings, although anyone with half a brain can tell that it was written by men who didn't even live when He did, much less know him.
Every Church interprets the Bible to suit its own purposes - particularly the Catholic Church - and before you start bashing me, I'm a Catholic.

Yes, it is the original. Protestants will deny this all day and are consequently denying historical facts that the Catholic Church IS the church set down by Christ.

The original church was founded upon Peter (One of Jesus disciples..)

Since then... The church has branched out into other denominations. (Baptist started at the Reformation.)

Here is a link with some information- Note: I haven't read all of the information on the fallowing link, so I cannot verify that all of it is true.

Indirectly, yes. The church is made up of Jesus' followers, and was therefore founded by the 12 disciples.
