If I read your question to mean, "Shouldn't they have to accept credit cards because I wasn't carrying enough cash?" the answer is no. My experience is similar to others here, very few taxis that I've ridden in in any city accepted credit cards.
Asking before you get in is a very good idea if you don't think you have enough cash.

As long as they accept US currency, you better believe it is legal. Read a dollar bill - "Legal Tender for all Debts, Public and Private" - do you see that on a check or credit card?

be glad fo it. with all the identity theft going on i wouldn't give them a check or my creditcard. most cab drivers are foriegners who have no real ties to this country anyway.
