With talks still going on in Florida over the status of Joe Torre's job, we get ever so closer to answering the question of who captains the ship next season. But who will and who SHOULD are two different questions.

Candidates include Joe Torre (the incumbent), Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi, and Tony LaRussa. Thoughts?

Torre on both counts. I'm still not convinced that losing the Cleveland series will cost Torre his job. Steinbrenner never said that they wouldn't bring Torre back, what he said was "I don't think we'd bring him back." The word think leaves the door open for his return.

I believe it will come down to Torre or Mattingly with the edge to Torre to come back as manager. I also think Torre is the right guy for the job.

Joe Girardi, and Don Mattingly. I wish Paul O'Neill wanted the job.
