it really depends on your age, for the first few years, they are irregular, but if you have been getting you periods for a few years and they are normally regular see a doctor.

If you menstruate for more than 3 days you probably have a low sodium and you can't retain your water. Menstruating has flushed out so much than you just can't get it to stop. You could also be just dehydrated and had a low sodium in the first place.
Get some orange juice or a sports drink and drink a glass and let's see if that doesn't slow you down. This could make you feel terribly thirsty so I want to brace you for it now. Try and take it a little bit at a time and relax. You might bloat and cramp so take some acetaminophen before you start.
Such a heavy flow can leaving you feeling wired and strung out so you should be coming down off a bit of a high. This could make you sleepy. Your digestion could be a bit off. You have flushed out your B vitamins and that could make it hard to digest your food. You may tend to eat too fast and feel full too quickly. Your iron should be depleted, so you should be anemic. You can take some vitamins to help you get back to normal, but it's all for your benefit. It's up to you if that's what you want to do.
Don't expect to go back to normal over night. Give yourself a couple of days to start feeling like yourself again. If, of course, you're still going heavily, consider getting more sodium to plug that up. After the first day, get another glass. It shouldn't just up and stop, it should taper off. Expect a little drainage, but it should noticeably lessen and improve.
I hope this helps you.

It could be anything from stress to something more serious. You should go and see an OBGYN. It is not a good thing to have a period for this long.
