it is a great question. reparations are like putting a bandage on the wound. we need a solution that will unite people of all races rather than create more division. lets keep in mind that many white people IE; Irish people were enslaved and some blacks came here but mainly was true in Europe to go to school IE; diplomats children and children of African kings. in a capitalist system apartheid by color was replaced by apartheid by checkbooks. also lets not forget that Africa was deprived of millions of its productive citizens. reparations is not a solution to peoples poverty. the way resources, power and status has been divided was unjust and illegitimate. that is the reason why people tend to group.people in power like us to group and see us divided. we need to take actions that would unite the masses. it is impossible to redistribute these resources justly since people in power won't let that happen. i think the best way to start this process without much bloodshed ;we first have to demand for a true democracy, that would give ways to invest in our people's heath and education. a healthy and educated masses will cause a better and more just system. that is the main reason that the enemy doesn't invest in our youth. their main nightmare would be an educated and healthy masses. a productive reparations would be education for all the people who were a victim of slavery and capitalism. peace

Umm no.. It's just an excuse for the lazy and irresponsible, whom already receive reparations in a hugely disapportionate manner (think free college grants, housing, welfare, food stamps) to a generation that never lifted a finger in their life. They, neither their parents were ever faced with slavery. Giving away free money just encourages them to be lazier and not strive to be anything in life. Sometimes you need to be truly hungry, to be motivated to get off your butt and do something with your life. They need to learn how to support and feed themselves.

Its a complicated issue to discuss stating that black deserve reparation. The problem for that who will actual get the money. In 1991 United State gave reparation to Japanese Americans and it was not a big deal to White America. When a touchy topic such as this when it brought up for negative point view you will hear alot hatred from White Americans and others. The reason of their ideology of nonsense are from slavery of some of their ancestor were slave masters or not. The truth that Black do deserve reparation not because of slavery but in fact the government hinder majority financial and economical growth for black through out history even in the present state. The money should go to large and predominately Black communities and educational faculties. For those with lack of knowledge Blacks did not discriminate another race from job opportunities, housing, education.White Americans did that to us.To them they will never understand why Black the communities has large disadvantage in excelling not on a individual level but has a whole.

I think there are many problems with the idea of reparations, not the least of which is the lack of documentation on slaves and their owners. I don't think we can impose a policy where everyone with white skin has to pay everyone with black skin money (not that anyone's suggesting that, but I'm wondering how else they would want to do it).
However, there is one type of reparations I support 100%. I think that these huge rich companies that were built on the back of slave labor that are still in operation today (think tobacco companies, especially!) should have to set up some scholarships or college funds for poor, inner-city youth, or donate generously to charities that help in these areas. I would support a program like that, and I think a lot of other people would too. :-)

I do believe that America owes a debt to Black people, not to individuals as so many people try to say (they didnt own slaves and they dont owe anybody anything) without acknowledging the fact that the whites of America in large part have received preferential treatment since this country's inception, allowed to buy property and pass it down through the generations, when Black people were not able to do so....much white wealth has been passed down father to son, wealth that was accumulated through the sweat of Black people enslaved by white people. White people are in a much better economical situation today because their forefathers used slave labor to obtain their wealth. Now, so many whites are second and third generation Americans, their forefathers were not part of America's slave owners, but they need to acknowledge that many of the issues facing Black Americans today directly result from America's history of slave labor, and the progression to a separate and unequal society. The playing field is not level. Reparations should be given and used to help put dollars into impoverished communities, underachieving school systems, and other institutions that can provide much needed help to those Black people on the fringes of society trying to make a life for their children better than their own.

it is a touchy subject. I do actually believe they should get reparations, the japanese americans who were held in camps during ww2 got reparations along with the holocaust survivors, remember that it was just fifty years ago that african americans got to go to school with everyone(integration) and that was a circus. i believe they are owed. besides i think i heard the government say something to the effect of they should. yes.

How much $ are we talking?
Are we talking one lump sum payment? Like $5,000.00?
And what about people of mixed race? If someone is half black/half white do they only get $2500.00?
Someone like Tiger Woods, who is actually 3/4 Asian - would he get just $1250.00?
How do you divide it up?
Some people might suggest that things like affirmative action are a form of reparation.

Well if Native American Tribes can get land for casinos and bring in billions of dollars to their tribe, why can blacks get something similar? The US could allow blacks to have casino's anywhere, that would be suitable reparations in order to build our communities. Black communities are impoverished, crime and drug ridden all over the country, I think that there has to be a way to make things better for us. There would be more money for the government thru taxes and more money for the communities. One thing is for sure, this defintatley won't happen with a republican in office.
