Good grief! Assuming that the clerk was not actually injured, and I feel sure that any injury would have been mentioned in the article, I think it's an outrageous waste of resources to put this moron in prison over the incident- Seems to me that a bit of county time and more closely supervised probation should be sufficient.

He's not going to prison for the doughnut. He's going to prison because he assaulted the person who stopped him for the doughnut. The charge is assault not petty theft. Get your facts straight if you are going to ask this type of question.
On the other hand I have busted close to (50) shoplifters some of whom put up fights and pulled weapons and none of them did more than a few months in jail. I can't tell you how this guy acted in court but he probably pissed off the judge hence the sentance.

Well it wasn't his first offense. What do we, as society have to do to reform him? Yes it was only a doughnut, how did he break the law before? What will he do next? Maybe a long prison term for a doughnut is extreme but he needs to be punished.

For the doughnut theif- seem, it grew to become into in basic terms fifty two cents. Did you relatively might desire to bypass and thieve it? in case you have been that desperate for a doughtnut then you definately've better issues. For the police- He has commited a criminal offense in the past, so arrest him now, preserve the little ones. (Or some crud like that.) against Doughnut theif- He has commited a criminal offense in the past, so he will do it back! against Police- It grew to become right into slightly shove, recover from it. a real stronghold type of crime could be if somebody had gotten beat up so undesirable they had to bypass to the wellness center. to no longer point out you're making a mountain out of a molehill. As you could discover, I relatively have assorted character subject concerns.

All I have to say is that it must have been some doughnut. Maybe the jury can sample it at the trial.

Look at this from the law enforcement side...Would you deprive a cop of a dougnut?

prison terms should be extreme. it's just common sense to obey the law.

Wow, glad to see our tax money going to good use. I mean, "strong-armed robbery". . . who WOULDN'T pursue a serious offense like that over petty murders and child abductions?

Is this "a three strikes your out" situation ? If so, I think it is wrong to make a petty crime the third strike.
