every terminology matches dull / sharp dull / bright acute / obteuse even to be sharp dressed is to be smart... I am sure there are plenty more similar things or opposites that give the same idea.

Dull has always meant thick, or at least it did when I was at school. However I suspect that the PC brigade and the government who do not want to see any child being less than a genius will have changed the language to reflect their idea that the little darlings are just shrinking violets.

One day everyone will realise that it is the politicians who are the dull and thick, but that they hide thi8s by continually keeping the better educated off balance by changing the rules from time to time.
