it's ok to smoke once in a while, but not often or heavily. it is true that if a pregnant woman smokes weed occasionally, the baby will be smarter!
marijuana is NOT that bad for you people!! did u know it was made illegal for the sole reason that hemp was too much of a competitor for the rope industry!! it wasnt made illegal because it had an affect on your brain. some of the most intelligent people in this world either used to smoke or smoke now! dayum! pot is actually better for you than cigs or alcohol, yet they are both legal! explain that one...

Ok- first let me say that I am in no way suggesting that anyone should ever ingest drugs while pregnant. But I had a very frank conversation with my OB after a friend (who was a multi-drug user) became pregnant. What he told me is that the mother's body is pretty good at protecting babies from certain harmful substances......unfortunately, marijuana is not one of them and the drug does pass through the placenta to the baby. That means that a baby whose brain and organs and life systems are developing is ingesting a harmful chemical that could alter their development. Notice I didn't say will alter, I said could. So I am sure you can find people whose mothers smoked marijuana and they came out normal. But the question is why would you risk the health of your baby on the roll of the dice? Statistically, large percentages of children whose mothers are frequent users have health and behavioral issues as a result.

I would say it is risky, but what those risks are, nobody can really say. No clinical study has established any connection at all between marijuana use and fetal development.
There are some epidemiological studies that claim babies exposed to pot in utero suffer from shorter attention spans, but the alleged connection is tenuous at best.
Marijuana is a complex drug containing many different alkaloids. It's possible (if unproven) that some are harmful to fetuses. On the other hand, it's possible some are beneficial to fetuses.
At this point its a religious argument: anyone who has reached a conclusion one way or the other has done so based on pre-conceived notions and hearsay, rather than clinical evidence.

Well of course you shouldn't smoke marijuana while your pregnant. But honestly smoking cigarettes is more harmful than marijuana.

Ignoring all the anti-pot propaganda, there's still a higher chance the kid will be messed up with smoke than without.
Statistics say minor use is ok, major use can be hazardous.

it;s bad to smoke during early pregnancy when the brain is developing but TECHNICALLY is is ok. The baby will be born and will have some developmental Delays (the baby will turn over or start to talk Later then others) but all the research shows that when it time for the kid to start school he or she will have caught up by then as far a developmental mile stones.

You should tell her that as her friend you love her, and you want her to have a healthy baby, and that it is NOT under any circumstances okay to smoke marijuana during her pregnancy! Don't be afraid to be blunt with her, because as her friend you should be able to tell her the truth, no matter how much it hurts. Also, talk to her about her plans with this baby......does she want to keep it, put it up for adoption?? Good luck!!

Are you sure you don't smoke with her. Of course it's not ok to smoke marijuana while pregnant. Tell your friend she's an idiot, and doesn't deserve to have kids.

Smoking weed is about the same as smoking cigarettes, although the amount of tar in one joint is equal to about 10 cigarettes.
Smoking occasionally while pregnant shouldn't be a huge issue for the baby but daily use is something else all together. Try to talk to your friend about cutting down, to the weekends, perhaps, so that she's not risking her baby's health.
If your friend wants to talk give her my email address

Early motherhood can affect the psychosocial development of the infant. The occurrence of developmental disabilities and behavioral issues is increased in children born to teen mothers One study suggested that adolescent mothers are less likely to stimulate their infant through affectionate behaviors such as touch, smiling, and verbal communication, or to be sensitive and accepting toward his or her needs Another found that those who had more social support were less likely to show anger toward their children or to rely upon punishment
Poor academic performance in the children of teenage mothers has also been noted, with many of them being more likely than average to fail to graduate from secondary school, be held back a grade level, or score lower on standardized tests. Daughters born to adolescent parents are more likely to become teen mothers themselves. A son born to a young woman in her teens is three times more likely to serve time in prison
