As happy as my friends, family, and fiance make me, I am perfectly content and happy with being by myself. All I need is a good book, some sand and shore and I am one happy woman.

Probably the most important question of all. :-)))
And I am greatly encouraged by the number of answerers who have 'seen' that they do this, and it doesn't 'serve' them.
The truth is that we are conditioned to think that we should be constantly 'serving' others, Bob Dylan even wrote a song that said we 'had to' ! It's a great lie.
If we really want to 'serve' others we must needs start with our own selves. If we cannot be happy, than what effect are we going to have on others, And it is a question of 'Being', nothing you can get, no-one who can come to you, and no 'place' you can be will create 'happiness' within you.
Only you can take that decision, to 'Be' happy, no matter what the moment to moment circumstances in which you may find yourself. Once you have taken over the 'reins' of your feelings again, then something miraculous happens, all the frustrations and dissatisfactions just melt away.
This transforms your experience, and "Lo and behold !" see what happens to those around you. As you glow, your 'light' seems to 'infect' all of those around you. More smiles, and more love come your way, and the grumps can't seem to get near you anymore. :-)))

sometimes yes, I do have to say though that outside stimulus produces internal change therefor happiness is truely within. During saddness I sought happiness in many outwordly things before realising the power to be happy is within. Now I choose to be with those that allow me to be happy in their company.I no longeer depend on them for my feelings because they are my feelings and mine alone. ok I`ll share if you want hee hee

I absolutely do! How can a friendless person be a happy person? Included in the definition friends is family, without them I would have no happiness.

No. There are so many other things out there that make me happy. A bright sunshiny day, my dogs' eyes shining brightly in anticipation of a walk, the flowers and trees, the birds singing out there etc.

I used to and perhaps that is why I was seldom happy...but I know now that happiness is found by learning to appreciate the good moments in life.

sort of i does ..i still remember the way i was feeling when i was living in my one city before i move on to study and believe me i can assure to you that my mood was related to all the people around me so my happiness is but i just discover that happiness is a choice that we choose so it's us who make ourselves happy or sad and other people are just a complement a way that it could make us more happy or more sad ...our live is our choice and we should live it us we want not us other people want us to

Nope. I follow this motto: if it's to be, it's up to me. In other words, if I want to be happy, it's up to me to make myself happy. Depending on someone else for my happiness is just that--depending on them for something I can do myself. Why depend on someone to do something for me when I can do it myself? Doesn't make sense to me. Now if someone else does things that make me happy, that's great, but my ultimate happiness is up to me.

Of course. We're human beings, and we are social creatures, for the most part.
I can assure you that if my husband, daughter, grandson, and my friends were taken away, I'd be unhappy in the extreme. (However, I do not need their APPROVAL to be happy.)
That's not to say that I can't be happy on my own, though, in fact I NEED some "alone time" every day to pursue my own interests without interruption, such as painting...or being on YA :)
