I would place a high value on having a positive experience with both pregnancy and childbirth. I think the best way to do this is to explore all of your options and make good, educated choices.

My doctor was pressuring me to schedule for induction at the hospital with petocin. Fortunately I had done my homework on that one and knew all the potential risks and issues with such an intervention and said no ! I am happy to report I have a beautiful baby boy....I don't understand why doctors are so eager to interfere with nature when there are no problems. Despite my doctor, we had a natural child birth with no intervention and it was wonderful....the only thing I would change for next time is to have a midwife instead. I am interviewing for one now....one lady who has attended more than 5,000 births told me "midwives and doctors don't deliver babies....mothers deliver babies....we just catch them". I thought that was a great way to recognize who is doing the actual work! (So often the doctor acts as if he/she has the tough job! :-)

Although I think it helps to have a positive experience with your pregnancy and childbirth, I think the more important thing is the value you place on your baby afterwards. I had my daughter just over 5 months ago and although I wasn't one of those women who loved being pregnant, I had a fairly good pregnancy. The delivery however was another story - I was two weeks overdue with my baby so my doctor chose to induce me. It took three times of being induced, four very long days and sleepness nights, and then after 3 hours of pushing I finally went in for a C-section. It was the most grueling experience of my life however in the end I had a beautiful, happy, healthy baby girl. Now 5 months later, I hardly remember the delivery experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I think it's VERY important to have a positive experience. If I didn't have a good time having my first I might not have a second on the way. But because of how much I enjoyed being pregnant and my labor was wonderful, It made me want a second. And now I've got one beautiful 15 month old little boy, and another baby comming in May!! And I can't wait to birth this one, I love it.

Huh? It would be great if pregnancy and childbirth was always wonderful and beautiful but the ultimate goal is to have your baby. I love being pregnant. What kind of value do you want? I guess it's a 7 out of 10.

It's important enough that I'm having a second!

My cousin has the most amazing child but she had a terrible pregnancy and an even worse birth experience. She's determined NOT to go through it again, so determined, in fact, that at only 23 she had her tubes tied.

I love being pregnant so much and had a good enough birth that I'm considering going the surrogate route in order to help couples who are having a hard time (we were one of those, too).

Well to me the most important thing is to have a healthy child. A positive experience is just icing on the cake.

i think it's important, esp a postive experience of childbirth.
a negative birthing experience can cause complications, which can lead to less than optimal health for mom & baby.
