Okay by law?? does anyone know can department of family and children check into your personal records. If they ask for copies of your bills and such can they go into those records?? I was told by Law that they CAN NOT check your ss #, and I know this is pretty much true. But what about other records? Should you give them information that has nothing to do with anything else?? Like your bills and stuff.

These records are required if you are applying for certain needs based payments such as welfare. You need to show need and part of your need is going to be based on these bills.

"Okay if you are not applying for anything why would they ask for copies of your bills??" - Again, depends on why you are dealing with them. People normally deal with them for one of two reasons:
1. Get benefits (or assist someone else getting benefits)
2. Child abuse issues. They might want to see that a person is properly heating their home. Or providing food.

Your question is SO general it is hard to give you an answer that addresses your specific issue. They do not as a rule ask people for information when they are not working a case.

Yea, I would check your sources again. I know for a fact that not only can they check you SS# but they are linked with Social Security (at least in most states) I work for a government agency and I can check your SS# anytime we need to, we are on Social Securitys system.

Alsom we use LexusNexus and run a utilities search, we can find anything you do not give, so think again and check your states privacy laws- more then likley they already know the info they are asking for.
