With my first I'd lost 25lbs by 3 months and with my 2nd I'd lost 35lbs by 3 months. I had HORRIBLE morning sickness.
As long as you eventually start gaining and baby is growing it's ok to lose a bit of weight. If you're like me I can lose 20lbs and not look like I've lost anything.

Are you being monitored by a doctor? I lost 16 pounds with my first pregnancy in the beginning and only gained back the same 16 pounds so I never weighed more than my starting weight. My doctor made sure I was eating right (which I was) and that my measurements and baby's measurements were accurate for my pregnancy. I'm 13 weeks pregnant now and have already lost 4 pounds. Also, I'm overweight to begin with so that's why it was okay for me. Check with your doctor. If you're losing too much weight, something could be wrong. Good luck!

Well it all depends on your prepregnacy weight. If you are not overweight, then I would say, no, not 20 anyways. But if you are overweight it's normal.

I am overweight and with both my pregnancys I dropped 15 to 20 pds during the first trimester. I asked the dr about this, cause I wasn't dieting. And he told me that a lot of times once a woman finds out she is pregnant she starts eating better, and you can drop weight in the first trimester. In fact with my son (I dropped about 20 with him) the day after I had him I weighted less than I did before I got pregnant. Which was a wonderful suprise.

Yes it is quite usual to lose weight in early pregnancy. Usually this means you stand a better chance of regaining your pre-pregnancy figure. Somewhere about 4-5 months this weight loss should stop and your weight should start to increase. If this does not happen fairly soon, then mention it to your nurse or midwife. Make sure you are eating a good healthy diet, with plenty of milk products, vegetables and protein (fish is good) for the baby's growth. I always craved marmite during pregnancy, well it must be better than eating coal!!

With my first baby, I lost about 15lbs during my 1st couple of months. Of course, I was so sick, I couldn't keep water down. If you are getting sick, and that is the cause, than my advice is to keep consuming food, etc. I know it may make puking worse, but at least you're body will absorb some nutrients. Also, make sure you are taking your vitamins. Try drinking things like Gatorade, or flat clear soda, because upping your blood sugar may make it easier to keep food down. Also, try your best to avoid anything that has a high acid content. (and I don't mean LSD :D) Things like salsa, oranges, etc. Milk based products are great, as well as crackers, bread, etc.

No, it's ok to lose some weight from morning sickness but that seems like an awful lot. With all of mine it just took several months to gain anything.

I lost 15lbs. early in my first trimester from morning sickness, but by the 4th month I was able to gain it all back plus some. If your weight loss is not due to morning sickness or happens suddenly with no apparent reason, you need to be evaluated by a doctor. There could be another problem that's causing it.

It depends on your starting weight, sometimes you're stressed and don't eat. I would say it is slightly normal but you should look into it, whatever is best for the baby, as long as it's healthy. Maybe a check in with a doctor, would help.
