You are going to get a lot of Bush answers... for the wrong reasons. ("the media told me to think that way")

But, I think that (as a historian) I am forced to concur. There have been few presidents that have polarized the public, reduced freedoms, trashed the economy and squandered our international good standing as much as the current president.

He didn't have any Monica-scandals... Or, a "teapot dome" scandal... But, he did preside over an administration that reduced in quantity and quality just about every facet of American life.

I'm afraid I must side with most of the rest of the 6.2 billion on Earth when I say that poor little George W. is the worst president we've ever had....

I'm sorry to not immediately jump on the "I hate Bush" bandwagon. I know it's the popular sentiment to say Bush is the worst president ever, and I do think he's a contender, but I have to argue that there are presidents in our past who have created problems for the US and the world at LEAST as great in scope. We're ACUTELY aware of every mistake and bad decision that Bush has made because of the speed of communication. I think that if we had the Internet and television back in the mid 1800's that we might be calling Andrew Johnson (Lincolns successor, for those who don't know ) who actively sided with confederates and undermined the constitution and the abolition of slavery. Or perhaps Warren G. Harding whose administration was largely corrupt while he seemed helpless to contol it. Perhaps, dare I say, Herbert Hoover, who held on to his own individual ideals so tightly (sound familiar) and refused any advice even leading up to the the stock-market crash of 1929 and leading into the great depression, was the worst president ever. Who's to say.

So, while Bush has been a historically bad president, let's think for ourselves people! Turn off NPR, put down the New York Times, and get a little perspective. He's had some pretty terrible predecessors any one of whom are deserving of the title "Worst President in U.S. History".

Its beyond doubt that 'Nixon' could be the worst president in the history of US.

As a result of the Watergate scandal, Nixon resigned the presidency in the face of likely impeachment by the United States House of Representatives.
Could there be any other reason..??!!!

Honestly, the present one. He's not very bright. He hasn't accomplished any of the things he set out to do. The war in Iraq has turned into an endless quagmire. He's made no progress against terrorism, and has in fact made things worse. He has spent the United States into an enormous hole that will damage our economy for generations. He has presided over a wholesale shift of wealth from the middle class to the rich, and encouraged the plundering of American resources. He has actively worked to undermine the Constitution he swore to uphold, and brought American prestige to the lowest ebb in its history.

Nope not Bush, not even Nixon the worst president EVER was Jimmy Carter.

He gave things away for nothing, like the control of the Panama Canal. He wishy-washed his do nothing way through the Iran crissis when an act of WAR was committed against our embassy. Inflation was at it's worst ever in history.

Warren Harding. There was a man who had little to no political experience but he was a guy who everyone could like because...well...because he was a 'likable' guy. He had a horribly corrupt administration and his cabinet was rife with thieves and shady deals galore.
Before that...Grant had a corrupt administration as well and should have really stuck with what he knew best...military strategy and tactics.

LBJ. He prosecuted a winless war in SE Asia while at the same time trying to fund his Great Society. He lied about the cost of both to Congress who then failed to raise taxes, throwing fiscal sanity out the door. We are still paying for those lies to this day.

Based on approval ratings, I'd have to say Jimmy Carter was the worst. During the Iranian Hostage Crisis, he directed the failed rescue attempt at every turn and assured the distaster at Desert One. Having politicians direct military operations ensures trouble.

G.W. Too many reasons to explain. I think we all know anyway. Illegal occupation of a country, perjury probably hundreds of times, illegal wire tapping, corruption on a monumental scale just to name a few.
