My mom keeps opening my mail! It is illegal and it is a federal crime. I can report her for it and don't think I wouldn't. I don't open her mail. It's rude. I hardly ever swear or say the F word, but at this time in this situation I soooo would use it. I told her it's illegal, but she doesn't care. Help?
P.S. I'm 18.

I like the idea of using a PO BOX, they are not real expensive for a small one.
* you should play a joke on her ( noting bad) get creative and send yourself a letter and when she reads it, she will learn her lesson on reading it. Like write a letter and leave the from on the outside of the envelope blank and make the letter seem like its top secret and put details in there like they want you to complete a mission. make it detailed and make it look top secret! That would be hilarious, but don't put anything bad in there cause she might call the police and report someting thats going to happen because she thinks its real.
make it seem like you are on a mission to travel to another state overnight to save a princess from another country that is here with her family visiting with the president. She wont know what to think when she reads it. :)

This is not right, you are 18 and she should give you your
privacy, It is against the law to open someone's mail, Iam
not sure to what degree thew, you are her son and you do
live in her home, I would first talk to her and ask her to
stop, then tell if she does'nt then you might take this matter
further, I would do it in A calm adult matter thew.

Well, if you're still under her roof, you're technically under her rules. So unfortunately baby, if she's payin the bills, she's got a right to open whatever mail comes thru the home. I know it doesnt seem right, but you'll appreciate your mom when you're out there on your own. But as someone above said, if you dont agree with it, get your own place. It'll be ALOT different.

Are you still in high school? If so, she is still your legal guardian and has a right to open your mail. If you're not in high school and you don't like her rules, move out.

are you worried what she will find? what kind of private mail does an 18 year old have? playboy? penthouse? credit card bill? phone bill? i doubt she isn't opening anything that she hasn't seen before.
get over it or get out! remember the "her house her rules!"
