I guess I'm as confused as # 1 is; but certainly 1 & 2 offer vaild suggestions.

Laminate over "GLIT" suggests some level of sealing; and without ANY details from you at all about the construction; the laminate; or your rationale, NO ONE here might be able to give you a satisfactory response.

The construction of so much we have in our homes, Furniture; counter tops; flooring; etc; SADLY became CHEAP in floor scrapings and Glue pressed into some material sometimes called "WOOD" LONG AGO. big sigh.

I've been on the planet and in the trades for a long time; and I use the term GLIT as a sarcastic metaphor for GLUE and SH**. (No offense to you)

In truth there was never an intent by the manufacturer of the TOP, to "seal" it; given the fact that the purpose of the laminate was exactly that. If you installed GLIT and laminated it; that might have been a consideration before the fact?

One of the issues I sense IMMEDIATELY; is the word UNDERNEATH. That might assume you endure; or expect; plumbing leaks to degrade the substance on a level not so quickly obvious. I won't even go to the issue of plumbing.

No matter what... SEALING from the bottom, MIGHT get to a depth of 1/16 inch,,IF at all absorbed; but you still have the issue of LEAKING,,, if that's your issue...FROM ABOVE.
