I think the custody should be joint, if this isn't possible, then I feel the child should go to the parent that is capable to taking care of him/her the best.
There are times when courts have decided that the father is the best placement for the child and the mother is unfit. Many cases the children goes to the mothers. However, courts are realizing the fathers can be wonderful parents as well and not to be discriminated according to gender.

depending on the best interest of the child. If the mother or fathedr were never around with the child when they were growing up then no. But with the judicial system today if the mother of the children show up then they get custody 9 times out of 10

If both parents are good parents I do think the child should live with the mother. The only time I do not think a child should be with the mother is when the mother in unfit.

Depends entirely on the situation. Just because you have given birth doesn't make you a mother. A mother doesn't use her child to fight her battles with and a mother does what is in the best interest of the child regardless of what is best for her.

I think that depends on 2 things..First on what the child wants (parents almost never take the opinion of their child) and second on if the mother is good. If the wants to live with the mither and there is nothing wrong with the mother then yeah it is just fine.

I think that it is great for a child to be with both parents after a divorce. Joint custody is great for the kids unless one parent is unfit.
If one parent is unfit then the child should live with the other, whether it is their mother or their father.

If the mother is a good mother I think the child should be with the mother. But I also think they should know the other parent.

There is nothing wrong with either parent having custody of a child. Its all about what is best for the child.

depends on the mother. i've seen some mothers that should never have custody because they are abusive and i have also seen dads that are the same way. if both parents are good parents the best thing to do is joint custody.

Depends on the situation. Is she a good mother? If she is, daughters need to be with their moms. If it was a son, then he should be with the father, especially as he grows older. The reason why I say this, is that issues come up. Menstrual cycle, hormones and likewise for boys. They may have question that will only feel comfortable asking ones of their own gender.
