I am a painter and decorator and work in empty properties. Many of them are horrible places and people have had pets.

The one I am in at the moment is full of fleas and I see them literally jumping all around me and on me. The house has been 'sprayed' but the chance of it being done again before I finish decorating it is very slim.

Any ideas what I can do in the meantime to stop them coming onto me? Sprays/smells etc? (I am in the UK so it has to be accessable here). My ankles are covered in bites tonight... :-(

I am constantly amazed people live like that...

First off, I know this sounds gross but use a dog shampoo on yourself to kill any fleas that my have gotten in your hair and this will help with keeping them off. Next there are "foggers" that you can buy to fog your place. This will take a little while(a couple of hours) but it will kill the fleas and any other bugs that have gotten in the house. And I know this sounds weird but my mom used to do this before she had her yard treated; wear flea collars around your ankles when you go outside to help keep them off your feet and ankles.

In a flea infested house the first thing you should do is vacuum the floors and rugs. Next you should get flea traps and put them in the house. Add the cost to your customers. I would use a spray but but if you don't that should do the trick. One other solution cover up in socks and sweatpants and sweatpants and gloves.

All the other answer are right on, but there is one thing more you can do that chases fleas away: Brewer's yeast and garlic tablets. I've given those to my dogs instead of flea shampoos, and they worked fine. Fleas hate the smell of brewer's yeast and garlic.
The supplement is quite good for humans, too, and it will improve the quality of your skin and hair.

This sounds crazy but real lavender averts them and also dryer sheets. Works for mosquitoes too. The frontline spray on you sounds like a good idea as well.

That is gross--I am not sure what you have available in the UK but have you tried a bug spray like Off?

i cant tell you what to use but i can tell you the hotter it is the more they multiply. if you can get skin so soft it works and if you are in a house that if it is possible to make it cool i would try. you need to be careful though because they can be taken home on your cloths and hair. they can lay eggs inwhich you can carry home to.. so good luck and i hope you get some anwsers soon that can help.

You can buy Frontline spray (not the spot on, but the spray) and use it on yourself. It is for pets, but it is not toxic, and it is effective.
