Not much to do

1. Hardly water it. Either once a week 1 cup (measured) or half a cup twice a week.
2. Make sure that you use a rougher/dryer potting soil. You can make a mixture of one but make sure it is not too sandy or too moist. Adding in a little small gravel can help reduce moisture.
3. If it is to be an indoor plant leave it in a window that only gets sunlight for half the day. Too much light will not do it good but too little will keep it from growing very fast. I found this to work the best.
4. Prepare for growth. You want the aloe plant to get big so if you can make sure it grows in a container that can handle the growth. Aloe plants seem to have roots susceptable to 'big changes so re-potting is something you do not want to do often. (At least MY Aloe plants do. Maybe no one else had this problem). Also the deeper the pot the better off it is. I have many of mine growing in buckets (pails) and they really seem to like that a lot.
5. If leaves get brown adjust the conditions 'slightly'.
6 Make sure the plants are not in an area where they get hit often. I had a row of them and the two on the end did not grow as well as the others. They were the ones my children were running into often so I moved them and they seemed to do better.

Well you have a lot of answer's to read so here is what I do I have a aloe plant that is in a pot with at least 80lbs of potting soil I don't know if it is a Jumbo or what all the little ones that I have re-potted from around it grow to be large ones as well stems at the bottom are at least 8 to 10 inches wide , And I don't really do anything with it I water it about every month to month and a half you don't want it to get alot of direct sun light so mine sit half way back on the porch I bring them and the rest of my plants inside for winter if it gets below 40 degrees at night the turning orange is either to much water or to much sunlight hope this helped good luck and happy growing

I keep my aloe plant on my kitchen window sill. It is doing great there. One suggestion that was made to me was to put some egg shells right under the top layer of soil. There is something in the shells that feed and nurish the aloe. You do not need much maybe half a shell depending on the size of the pot you are using. We water our aloe maybe once a week. It is important to remember that it is a type of cactus, less is better. Now because of the moisture content in the aloe indirect sunlight is best, somewhere that it will get the last rays or even the morning rays, never the afternoon sun since that is the hottest and brightest. Good luck!

An Aloe plant to thrive, it needs some partial sun, not too much watering, and when new plants start sprouting on the sides just replant the new ones somewhere else and you will have a lot of plants that you would not be able to know what to do with them. This plants are very good when you burn your skin, or when you get a sting from a Bee, or any kind of insect. also, when someone gets a rash, and they have tried to cure it with any kind of Medicine, and it does not heal the Aloe plant is good for that too. the Aloe plant does not need too much caring, it thrives by itself. They do well on the ground, if you have it in a planter, for some reason it does not like it there, I know, because I have had it for a lot of years, could not be without it.

Because Aloe plants consist of 95% water, they are extremely frost tender. If they are grown outdoors in warm climates, they should be planted in full sun, or light shade. The soil should be moderately fertile, and fast draining. Established plants will survive a drought quite well, but for the benefit of the plant, water should be provided.
Because of their popularity, Aloe vera plants are available at almost every garden shop or nursery. Unless you live in area with a very mild climate, it's best to leave your Aloe plant in the pot and place it near a window that gets a lot of sun. You can move the pot outdoors during the summer months.
Aloe vera is a succulent, and as such, stores a large quantity of water within its leaves and root system. During the winter months, the plant will become somewhat dormant, and utilize very little moisture. During this period watering should be minimal. Allow the soil to become completely dry before giving the plant a cup or two of water. During the summer months, the soil should be completely soaked, but then be allowed to dry again before re-watering.
Aloes have a shallow, spreading root system, so when it is time to repot choose a wide planter, rather than a deep one. Use a planter with a drainage hole, or provide a 1-2 inch layer of gravel in the bottom of the pot to ensure adequate drainage. Use a good commercial potting mix with extra perlite, granite grit, or coarse sand added. You may also use a packaged 'cacti mix' soil.

I have 7 Aloe Vera plants in my yard. 5 in the flower beds. 2 in very large terra cotta type pots with drainage holes in the bottom.

I live in Sunny Southern California so it freezes once a year if that.

I water the Aloes that are planted in the flower beds every 3 days. I water the ones I have in Planters every other day, unless it's very hot 90+ Farenheit, then every day for all 7.

When mine turn very dark green I know it's time to give them more water. If they are turning bright yellow I usually give them some Miracle Gro plant food at the stock recommended mixture with the next watering.

I use Miracle Gro water retaining potting soil for the root systems for both my potted and garden aloe vera plants.

I have all of the aloe veras in areas where they get full sunlight 70% of the day or more. They seem to love it.

Take a look at my 360 profile for a few Aloe Vera pictures.

Keep it from getting a burn. When an aloe plant gets burned it has to put it's liquid all over itself to heal the burn completely and that process involves having the aloe plant then become just thinking self-centered idea's about being all over itself...in others words Hurray for me and too bad for you! This is not nice at all. Aloe plants are supposed to supply aloe for burns to help human beings skin get much better! If an aloe is gonna use all it's juices on itself, healing a burn, the houseplant section of your home will become a plant hospital ward! This is not right! Residential sections should not be operating commercial businesses such as a plant hospital! Your plant may be turning an orange color as it is mad! If it was envious it would be turning green! Keep this in mind! As a respected horticulturist, this is my expert opinion!
