well at least al gore is informing and scaring us with facts about global warming... this is an issue that affects people all around the world!! people who aren't affected are those who "don't care"... but once something happens, oh... they'll be all over that issue!! i like al gore, but honestly... i think in order for him to be awarded a Nobel Prize, he has to actually make a change in society vs. just talking about it. with more effort and practicing what he's preaching... then he deserves the award. he should be acknowledged, yes... awarded, not yet!! i think al gore is being constructive and effective... not much i can say for bush!! DO NOT GET ME STARTED WITH THAT STUPID F**K!!!!!

but anyways, haters keep hatin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that there are certainly many people who have done more to foster peace in the world in this past year than Mr Gore. And there are certainly many people who have done more for the environment than a man who has been responsible for the production of massive quantities of film, which is very environmentally dirty.

But the nobel committee is thinking in terms of creating publicity for what is a very serious issue, so I can see why they want to honor Mr. Gore, because he has helped drum up lots of media attention for the issue.

I also see their point that problems created by human environmental impact are going to create more and more conflict in the future, and I agree that the environment is an issue that is connected to peace and civil society.

I also think that they are trying to influence American politics by throwing their support behind Gore, hoping that if he runs for president again and wins, maybe he can help to move the US in a more environmentally friendly direction. But I don't think Americans will go for that because listening to other people, especially foreigners, goes against their character. And in case you are not aware, the nobel prize is awarded in Sweden, which is part of Europe, not the USA.

While awarding the nobel prize to Gore for his movie is something like awarding it to people who print millions of paper leaflets that say "save our trees", I also believe that his movie effectively shows what kind of effect our actions are having on the Earth in a way which may spread understanding and support for the changes we need to make.

I have been trying to figure out what is "nobel' about Al Gore for years and I can't come up with anything. It doesn't really matter now, what's done is done.

I don't know. I can't quite put my thumb on what raising awareness about research concerning the effects humans are having on global climate has to do with peace. On the other hand, I don't really know what requirements were put forth when the award was created.

Of course, it's not like peace has had many major victories lately.

I don't care about Global Warming or Al Gore, but this scurrying about complaining about the award and finding reasons why he "didn't deserve it" is embarrassing for conservatives everywhere.

Well, he fits in with the rest of the most recent winners, i.e. Yasar Arafat, Jimmy Carter. Goes to show, some awards aren't worth winning.

true, hes nothing compared to past winners (like ghandi for example), but consider this: do you know who the winner of last years nobel prize was? probably not, so to say hes not as good as previous winners is a stupid argument, because hes just as good as modern day winners.

I do. While I thought his movie was interesting, I do not understand how it has made the world a more peaceful place. Informing people about global warming-whether real or not- does not stop violence.

most thinking people in the country, but if you are against the USA they give you awards and if you are against Bush, you win awards. remember the dixie chicks grammy for country album of the year when they were not played on almost all country stations.
