My son is turning one and had his last shots at 3 months. For some reason my insurance was cancelled and open enrollment is coming this month for insurance from my job. I plan on taking him right away to get caught up. Is this possible even though he is off schedule?

Shots are FREE at the health department, just so you know.....and yes, he can get caught up.

Yeah, you'll be fine. The doctors have alternate immunization schedules they can follow if you miss doses, and the fact that he has remained healthy is good. The reason for so many shots in the first year is that a child's body isn't capable of "remembering" an immunity for long periods of time, but after a 3 or 4 dose series they have the maximum protection. Also, there is a program called the "Vaccines for Children (VFC)" where children without healthcare coverage can receive their vaccines for free (paid by the government)- You have to apply, and I'm not sure how it works, but I'm sure the doctor's office could help. Just, for future reference.

Yes. Take your son in as soon as possible and they will begin a course. Most kids are done by 2 years old, and then don't need any until kindergarten. Your child may just take a little longer, because there has to be a few months between shots.

Sure it is. Just because he's off schedule doesn't mean he can't get caught up. I think there's only one vaccination that isn't given after a certain age and that's the pneumococcal vaccine Prevnar, and I believe this vaccine is given until age 2.

He will be fine, unless you are paranoid that he will catch polio sometime soon :). They will give him the shots about 6-8 weeks between eachother, so it will take a while to be completely caught up.

You need to get those immunizations NOW... they have help for them if you cannot afford them depending on where you live. Check your local phone book under resources in the beginning of the phone book!! Call your local doctor or health department. Most clinics have immunizations at least one Saturday a month and you can qualify for discounts if you cannot pay for the whole thing!!

It is very important to stay current on those shots!! Yes, he should be able to get caught up this time... but don't let it happen again. Always make a phone call to someone to see if you can qualify for help... there are always local resources that you don't know about that could help you. Take care... also check on-line for info too!!

Don't overdue catching up, but yes, you can catch up. Not a terrible problem. Many moms delay all vaccinations until baby is a year old anyway. Doesn't cause a problem unless you need daycare.

Just bring him in and they will give him some but not all and they will tell you to bring him back in a couple months and so on until he's caught up.

You could have taken him to the local health dept and gotten them free or nearly free. don't let the dr. inject him with all of his late shots at 1 time. catch up gradually..

Yup! You can go anytime and get him caught up. In the meantime, he'll be fine. Most fo the shots are for illnesses that are on the rarer side, so if his immune system is up to par he'll be ok!
