I have three MS Vista Home Premium systems at home and I installed Firefox to all of them. I have had no problems using both IE and Firefox. The problem is not related to the standard Firefox installation process.

Have you checked to see if your Internet Options in IE have been modified to use/not use a proxy server? Have you tried viewing any particular pages (i.e. http://www.yahoo.com, http://www.espn.com, etc...)?

** Edit **
If you hit the Restore Defaults button, then yes, you may have changed your ability to connect to the Internet. Do you know if you required a proxy server in order to connect to the Internet? While most home ISP offerings use a "direct connect" to the Internet, there are some that configure using a proxy. Oh, you haven't mentioned if you use dial-up or broadband. How you connect would impact settings if your browser had to automatically connect through dial-up.

Personally, I hate using any "restore default" capability unless I get all information about what it will reset. It sounds like you may have lost settings that you don't know so you may need to contact your ISP to get the info again.

To access IE with Firefox you need the separate plug-in.
