My little cousin is 7 yrs. old and always complains that she wishes she got more "exciting things" other than candy. Don't get me wrong, she loves it, she just wishes there was more of a variety. For example, you could give out those mini cans of soda. There's lots of things that you can get at Sam's Club/ Costco for good prices. I've seen 24 packs of mini Play-Doughs, halloween decorated pencils, mini gummi burgers and hot dogs, mini bags of pretzels, chips and popcorn, popcorn balls, etc. Maybe you could also get a few of those big boxes of candy bars at Sam's Club/Costco. You can also get mini rubber duckies and lots of other novelties for really cheap at Oriental Trading Co. Check out this website for that (just copy paste the websites if they don't work):

Kids will really get a kick out of these!!!

Just browse around on these sites to find what you want. I hope this helps and happy haunting!

Pencils are always great since kids need them for school and if they care cute pencils the kids will love to take them to school the next day and show them off to their friends and teachers. You can pick up a pack of cute pencils at your local dollar store. Usually they come in packs of 10-20 pencils per pack. You can pick up enough for the whole night of Halloween for under $10. My son received several halloween pencils in his trick or treat bag last year, so it was convenient for us so we don't have have to buy more pencils.
You can also buy a bulk of halloween pencils for a great bargain on eBay: http://search.ebay.com/halloween-pencils_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfcclZ1QQfclZ4QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZQ2d1QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsaprchiZQQsaprcloZ

Here's some other great alternatives:

post it notes
halloween stickers (buy on eBay or dollar store)
crayons (buy in 4 pack boxes on eBay or dollar store)
temporary tatoos
individually wrapped cereal bars (buy in bulk on eBay, Sam's club, etc)
individually wrapped pretzels (i personally do not like pretzels but I've seen some people give it out)
goldfish crackers

hope this helps!
