I graduated a year ago from college. However, I've now decided I'd like to pursue a career in psychiatry. Sadly, I never took any science courses as an undergraduate. Is there anyway I can get around this?

Look into postbaccalaureate programs for pre-meds. They cater to people like you. There are two main kinds of post-bacc programs: One year of pre-reqs and then you take the MCAT and apply, or one year of pre-reqs, then you are admitted to their medical school (most still require MCAT scores, though).

Georgetown, Drexel, USC have post-bacc programs. You can search online for others.

You have to take those courses. It's required for Medical School plust the MCAT test.

So go back and take more math, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, orgnaic chemistry, anatomy and physiology and get a Pre Med accredits Biology BS.

Then you go to Medical School, then you intern, then you apply for a Physciatry or Neuro-Psychiatry residence program and do that for 3-5 years.

Other alternatives include getting a Psychology or Social Work degree and going for a MSW or PH D in Clinical Psych.

You're still looking at another 4 to 6 years.

Nope. If you are certain you want to become a psychiatrist you're going to have to take all of the prereqs and take the MCAT.

I always ask people who say they want to be a psychiatrist if they know the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The associations' web sites explain the difference:

Psychology: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/medicine/education-faq/part1/section-2.html

Psychiatry: http://www.psych.org/
