Choice isn't the problem with third world poverty it is their own poor leadership. One of the many choices this country has made is to give very extensive grants and loans to aid these countries. Yes, there are corporations that capitalize on some of these countries and it sucks. But there are many more other ways we can assist them. One of them has been the stationing of the military in the country and requiring that all goods and assistance to the military be from the host country. This provided revenue for the host country and assistance to the military. This was one of the saving graces for Korea.

If you don't have a choice your destiny will be guided by someone else and there's a good chance you will be ruled by an idiot. In democracies, at least you can fire that idiot after four or five years. Even if your rulers are brilliant they represent only one line of thought, so they don't accept any contrary views. And the debate of ideas is what gets the world moving.
From your avatar I assume you are a woman. Well, if people didn't have a choice, you would still be considered an inferior person, unable to assume any responsibility in society other than taking care of her house and her children. Would you feel better in that kind of World?

P.S. What causes 3rd world poverty is precisely the limited choices given to it's inhabitants by corrupt dictatorial regimes, financed by greedy Western corporations.

Having a chioce in the modern world is GOOD. While true, there are people out there that are greedy and corrupt, its not "choices" fault.
Choice doesn't put a bullet into a gun and shoot someone,
Choice doesn't make a politician launder money,
Choice doesn't make a man do drugs and Overdose,
Choice doesn't throw a man off the top of a building,
Its not choice, it just human nature. No matter what you do, you can't stop human nature. Even if you take away thier choice, mankind will still be killing each other (USSR for example). Luckily for me im a penguin :]. /)`

I think its GOOD

I mean I like coffee icecream,
Do you,
What if they said you had to only eat coffee ice cream,

But you said I like chocolate, and there are so many flavors i haven't tried yet,

How would you feel if you didn't get the option to choose

Sometimes you have to do things for the majority,
because you can't please everyone,

But rethink the majority, the WORLD majority

Poverty, and Greed have nothing to do with the freedom of Choice

Education can help relieve a bit of Poverty,

Greed will always remain,

You should read what Baha'u'llah says about the obliteration of extremes of wealth and poverty

equality of the sexes and the races.

its some very good stuff

Having a choice in what?

As for causing ppverty in 3rd world countries that is an absolute crock. What causes poverty in countries is the beliefs, government and resources of that country.

Having a choice beats the alternative of not having a choice

Between doing the right thing and doing the wrong thing there should not be a choice.

Unfortunately the US has become a nation were wrong choices are encouraged in the name of individuality.

I think you have it backwards. Choice works and keeps free enterprise working and developing.
It makes sense to me to want better, not necessarily more. If we did not have choice in the auto industry, we would still be driving Ford Model T's.

Choice has nothing to do with greed.
Greed and money go together.
So many have died for your freedom of "choice." and you
want to throw it away.
I, with my freedom of "choice," have not imposed any poverty
on any thirld world country.
You complain you have no shoes, until you see others who
have "no feet." <}:-{(

In my opinion choice is good. But think of your question, what is the alternative? Communism?
