Use 80 grit . sanding screens are ment to use if your hooked up to a vac system, they don,t do a good job ,leave deep scratches in compound , you will end up useing paper anyway.

First off don't put it on thick your better off with a few thin coats. But the best thing to use if you must sand is sanding screen It looks like screen for a window but it is coated with abrasive 100 grit will work fine and all you have to do is tap it on the ground or wall and the dust will fall out instead of clogging up the paper.........paper is old technology no one uses it anymore, for drywall anyway.

Don't use sandpaper, it will drive you crazy clogging up. Do it the proper way with drywall sanding screens on a pole sander. Look in the drywall tool section of Home Depot or Lowe's. Very economical. Always wear your dust mask. The link below will give you the details.

I use a sanding sponge. They work great. Start off with rough sponge and finish with a fine sponge.
