When did a middle school, or any school, become responsible for such illogical and comical actions? Matters of sexuality are reserved for parents or guardians. The leadership of this school has greatly erred in deciding to give out contraceptives to girls ages 11-13. They should reconsider their first priority: the academic education of the community's children.

I support the policy 100% and will be happy to let the principal know.

From the article:

After an outbreak of pregnancies among middle school girls, education officials in this city have decided to allow a school health center to make birth control pills available to girls as young as 11.

Students need parental permission to access the school's health center. But treatment is confidential under state law, which allows the students to decide whether to inform their parents about the services they receive."

So, if a parent doesn't want their child receiving contraception, don't sign the permission to access the health center. That simple.

How many parents of these kids were teen parents themselves? The number might be higher than we like to think. I think the real question we should be asking here is why are the kids wanting to have sex at this age? Don't sit there and tell me kids will be kids and they are going to do it anyway so we should provide the protection. Proper education (which includes respect for their bodies and other people's bodies) is a big part of the answer. No one does that anymore. I know people who have told their kids not to have sex, given their children condoms anyway, and then they wonder why their child has no respect for their girlfriend. This is not rocket science. If we want to make a difference, that HAS to start in the home.

However, if the parents don't have respect for each other, where is the child supposed to learn it?
