You mean would I give it better than 50/50 odds? Well, yes, but then when you say "still" you imply that the level of freedom we currently have is the measure, so that's not saying much. What I would like is to get back to a government that does not exceed its Constitutional mandate. That would give us the maximum personal freedom.

it already isn't.
especially since 9/11, America has gotten even more Socialistic AND Nationalistic (more government financial help for just about everyone, AND newspapers like the New York Post whose "journalism" is remarkably similar to that of Der Stürmer during the Nazi period.). today is a far cry from our libertarian and noninterventionist Founding Fathers.
actually, i'd like to see the various state and regional secessionist movements gain ground and succeed in due time in breaking up the American Empire (like the Second Vermont Republic or Cascadia (Oregon/Washington). New York City should one day become an Independent City-State)...).

Just look at how things have been lately for an indication.
If you question the governments version of what happened on 9/11 you are called a conspiracy nut who wears a tin foil hat.
OR IF
You say that Iraq was an unneccessary war and we should withdraw as soon as possible you get called a traitor who wants to cut and run!

Yes, but the degree of our freedom will be dictated by how much we let Right Wing religious extremists dictate our lives. With GWB at the helm, our Constitution is under constant attack. We'll need to be vigilant and proactive to defend our way of life from these extremists in the future.

Just read the Patriot(?) Act or better yet see the clip at AARON RUSSO - 'Freedom to Fascism' it will show you how close we are to control.
Natl ID card 5/08, check-points again, govt spying(when we have wide open borders-for our safety?), forced vaccines, wire-tapping ourselves and spying on our neighbor or go to jail, govt control over all possessions and trans in emergency(loosely detailed) and the govt can force us into 'work-groups'.
The topper, can you see this leader in CHARGE of all this?(as in the war)

I think it depends on what you think of as free... It's a sad trend now that people are willing to give up privacy and personal liberty for "security". Who was it that said, "the more government you have, the less freedom"?

I don't think so, if there is even an America left, we will probably be living in sheltered communities, with really strict laws!
