The roof that we are working on is 1 5/8 slope per foot. Is the 3/8's going to cause a problem?

I know it won't effect the slope of the roof, I just wanted to make sure it won't cause any leaking because of that extra 3/8 of an inch.

Okay, I know the pitch stays the same. I need to know that because 2" is recommended will the fact that it is 3/8 off effect the roof in any way. In other words because the pitch is a tiny bit shy of 2" will the roof leak, not last as long, etc.?

Thanks guys, she really wants shingles so I think that I will just change the pitch as long as I have the decking off anyways. I recommended torch down as well because of the pitch and because of the fact that it will take forever to do shingles on her home, but she wants the house to fit in with the neighborhood a bit better and give it more of a cottage feel. I can do torch down (and yes I have great insurance), so we will see how it goes. She is at close to 25 grand if she changes the slope because the house is over 6000 sq. feet.

Although it is the minimum recommended, even a 2:12 slope is pretty shallow for a shingle roof. That low of a slope you should be using a modified torch down roof (installed by someone who really, REALLY knows what they are doing...and has good insurance). Will the variance make a difference, probably not, but make sure you cover the ENTIRE roof with ice and water shield and provide good flashing where (or if) the roof meets a wall. Grace building products make the best ice and water shield on the market.

Good luck

With such a small pitch, there is potential for ice and wind driven rain to get under the shingles. Look into asphalt roll roofing.

If your shingling the whole roof, no the pitch will stay the same.
