For your best friend

Good question. The question, and the other answers, really made me think. What WOULD I sacrifice for my best friend?

Material things? Of course. That's a no-brainer.

My time? Also a no-brainer. If he needs me, I make time.

My health? Definitely. If he needs a kidney or a bone marrow transplant, I'm there.

Other relationships? Most probably. It depends on the circumstances, of course, but since he's not the type of person who'd put me in that position, if someone else tried to come between us, I'd kick them to the curb in a heartbeat.

My life? Yep. No contest. He's much better person than I can be. He's more talented and motivated and has more to offer the world.

In fact, I think the only things I wouldn't give up are the well-being and happiness of my children. I wouldn't trade those for anything.

It's for that reason I'm glad I haven't had to give up any of those things, and I hope I never do. If I did, I could only hope that at some point they could understand, because I want them to find, and be, that kind of friend themselves.

The question isn't what would I give up, but what wouldn't I give up? The answer: I would surrender anything, unless in doing so I might endanger the health and welfare of my wife and kids. They're my primary responsibility. Then my friends. Anything else is just...stuff.
