I have my ideas (been married for 11 years) but what are three (3) elements that are sure fire ways to destroy a marriage?

1. selfishness
2. lack of trust
3. lack of respect
Selfishness is at the top, because it really breeds all other issues that can destroy a marriage. Adultery--its root is in selfishness. Financial issues--again someone is being selfish. Even lack of trust and respect for one another is a form of selfishness. A marriage is in trouble the minute one spouse starts thinking of him/herself more than his/her spouse. When you start thinking how something will affect you, rather than your spouse, your marriage is headed for deep, deep trouble.

Infidelity- the point of marriage is to spend your life with that one person that you have committed to. Being unfaithful goes against everything that a marriage is.
Lack of communication- Every problem can be either avoided all together or worked through proper communication.
Lack of respect- Whether is it self respect, respect for others property, or other people. Everyone deserves respect and appreciation.

I think the three most important elements that can defintley destroy a marriage is cheating, not loving the person your with and not wanting to be in your marriage anymore....We all have gone through our own experiences but I am a firm believer that if you love the person your with and it is strong enough to overcome anything and you want to be together then you can get through anything.....Everything else are parts that make up marriages....and you can conquer them TOGETHER....

I've been around the block a couple of times with marriage. I believe the 3 reasons people get divorced are honesty about finances, differences in how you want to raise children and lack of sex.

OBSESSIVE AND CONTROLLING: IF U NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOUR SPOUSE IS EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY AND U CONSTANTLY GIVE THEM A TIME LIMIT TO WHERE THEY ARE GOING AND WHEN THEY COME HOME, LEAVE THEM, AND BECOME A PRISON GUARD... NO ONE DESERVES TO LIVE IN A PRISON OF A MARRIAGE AND NO ONE DESERVES TO HAVE SOME ONE OBSESS OVER WHAT THEY WEAR OR HOW THEY LOOK OR HOW THEY ACT...

Cheating, lying, unrealistic expectations (e.g. for women, flowers all the time, for men hot meal on the table every night, size 2 waist, things like that)
