I happened upon this while researching something completely different . I then read ABC's explanation , and I don't buy it for a second . Go ahead and read it and tell me ...... Do you buy ABC's explanation ?

On a 23 May 2002 episode of The View, co-host Joy Behar said of the end of her daily weigh-ins (she'd been dieting), "Yes, and thank you, thank you, Jesus, is all I have to say." Her words were aired live in much of the country, but when ABC broadcast a taped version of the show on the West Coast, "Jesus" was edited out.

According to ABC spokeswoman Julie Hoover, that usage ran afoul of a particular standard the network adheres to. ABC has no problem with Jesus' name if it is used in a "prayerful and respectful manner," she said. But ABC does not allow Jesus' name to be used in an exclamation.

I guess ABC wants us to believe that using Jesus' name in a joyful exclamation is not 'respectful' . Pffft , I still ain't buying it .

I don't buy it either. Saying "Thank You Jesus" violates nothing and I would actually consider it prayerful and respectful.........

This no longer an answer in keeping with se, i opt to substantiate that this additionally has befell to me. while making use of 'God' as a acceptable call, after posting, any prevalence replaced into replaced with '@#$%'. while making use of a citation from Psalms 4, this replaced into the way it study after posting: "How long, human beings, will you turn @#$%'s glory into disgrace?" there is no fallacious use of language in this occasion. There are straightforward vulgar and fallacious words that qualify for censorship yet have remained untouched. words and correct names of religion, in spite of the indisputable fact that, seem to be the objective of censorship as we communicate.

Ask Sally Field. Many saw her Emmy speech. She exclaimed ... there would be no... and mixed God and damned... wars!

ABC TV View is Disney Corp. They have some rules. Joy Behar in my opinion is a bit out of control. She is a classic New York >>> ish stereotype b* atch. I'm from New York but...They use that B word every day which baffles me to no end. What happened to compliance & practices of long ago?

From what I understand, the censoring was done by an overzealous censor who had been told to censor Jesus when people uttered "Jesus Christ!" because that would be offensive (taking the lord's name in vain) to Christians. The censor apparently had a very all-or-nothing outlook and censored what Joy said. It was a human judgment, not some conspiracy to remove Jesus from national television.

EDIT: And hello? There are 2 EXTREMELY Christian women on the View: Elizabeth Hasslebeck and Sherri "I think the world is flat" Sheppard!!! I never watch the show because I work for a living, but personally, I am offended by their ignorance. Thanks Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, whoever you want! But have half a brain and get educated!

With Joy's mouth maybe it was best to bleep it out or she might add something to it to make it less respectful. But as you say, I don't buy the blurb by ABC.

But they'll keep it in as a cuss word. It's like that with almost all channels and what they edit and censure for TV. They'll take out the F word and the S word but they leave in all cuss words that have either Jesus or God's names in them. Typical sign of the times.

Sorry, has not happened. The cannot and should not edit out that word. If the word does not fall on the FCC bad list, it does not have to be deleted out.
Also, this is all made up. How many e-mails have we got that state this company hates god or does not agree with God and all that BS. That is all this question is. And, if Jesus was edited out, how then would anyone know?
I find it hard to believe they edit Jesus, but allow As s, sh it and ni (douoble g) er

The View is scheduled during the day because it could never survive in other time slots. There's a reason why they call it "daytime tv". Conservatives who work for a living never watch; it's just the welfare liberals.

And this surprises you why?

ABC is owned by Disney.

Promenade Pictures is putting out an animated film called "The Ten Commandments". Unfortunately Radio Disney has said they cannot use the term "God" to advertise this movie....now can you figure that one out?

I'm not buying it either.

And no, "religious zealots" are not offended by the name of Jesus. And we'd never be able to watch television if we avoided all the times God's name is taken in vain. It's constant.

I guess there are those who would call Ms. Behar's statement blasphemous, but I wouldn't. That is a very strange story however.

I used to like the view, but any more I'm sick to death of it.
