In 8 hrs. time, American Task Force 58 Hellcats destroyed 395 Japanese planes and lost only 20 American planes.

The Battle of Britain was the largest aerial battle of WWII. It was though predominantly over Southern England and the Channel between the British and the Germans. The British won because there planes such as the spitfires and hurricanes were superior to the German fighters. Radars also held the key. Battle of Britain was in 1940 just after Germany had conquered France. Germans were trying to gain control of the skies to carry out operation Sea Lion.
