I really dont mind it.

It should be;

3 pts awarded to win in regulation
2 pts awarded to win in OT/SO
0 pts awarded to loss in regulation
1 pts awarded to loss in OT/SO

I think that would work better what we have now, if not just leave it, i think its fine.

I was just talking about this last night with my husband. I completely agree with the league. If you get to overtime then you deserve a point. I mean it proves that the game was close and you get a little credit for playing up with the other team. Especially now that we have the shoot out, giving the losing overtime a point is fair because the difference between a win and a loss can be very minor.

my opinion would be that no points should be awarded for an OT loss; as your team has been outscored... I would however award a point if you only lose by shootout... the game would have ended in a tie otherwise giving you a point and a shootout is not a proper way to determine a win or a loss...

I think that the overtime loss point is a good thing...after the three periods of regulation time the teams are tied which earns them both a point for a tie. but how can you deny a team a point because of one lucky shot in sudden death overtime that goes into the net? I mean if two teams were tied after 60 minutes of playing time and one team was losing in shots like 42 to 12 and the only reason they made it to overtime was because of their goalie; what if this team on the first face off of overtime skated it in took a shot and scored? I don't think that it would be fare to take away the better team's overtime loss point, they earned it!

This is the worst thing about the NHL. In my opinion there is only 3 possible outcomes to a game. Win, Loss or Tie. Since the NHL has the stupid shootout, then they have decided that one team has to win and one has to lose. No ties or points for a regulation tie. It is a joke!

I agree with Flames Fan.

Games should be worth a set amount if they go to OT or end in regulation. Right now a regulation game is worth 2 points, while a OT/SO game is worth 3 (divided by 2 teams). That simply doesn't make sense.

well i am fine with that but if they are going o through 3 points into a game then they might as well have a regulation win 3 pts my thought is a team could easily lose almost all 82 games and still possibly make the playoffs without a win?? or vey few wins

Some teams EARNED that point, sadly though you can't just give it to them. I say go back to the tie and get it over with. Win is 2 and Tie is 1, with a Loss being 0 no matter when or where it happens.

IF they were to change the point system, I think Flames Fan's scenario probably works the best. But I hate teams getting points for losing. I have no other option to suggest though. It is like in the CFL missing a field goal and getting a point! Just doesn't seem right to me.

I don't like it now... Teams are relying on three point games too much. Three points for regulation may be a bit much, maybe one point for winning in OT or a shootout would be better.

No. OT loss or shootout loss should mean 0 points.
