Squirrels are rodents and therefore scavengers and will eat anything that comes to hand. Nuts, tree bark, bread, biscuits, seeds, pine cones.

Nuts, fruit and seeds.
Squirrels bury a lot of acorns in the Autumn then can't remember where they buried them so the acorns grow into oak trees.
