I'm not against abortions but I think it is very weird for a vegetarian to get a abortion. They will save a chicken but kill a child and no matter what anyone says we all know its a life at the moment you find out your pregnant.

ZeroCharis good point but do you verbally agree with people killing animals or do you think it wrong to kill a animal

Good point! I never thought of that!
You would think they would be completely against them... I guess some people value an animal's life higher than that of your own flesh and blood...

that would depend.....alot of vegetarians dont believe in killing an already born animal but will eat eggs.......and those same people may buy into the belief that an abortion is the killing of a fetus not a baby (which in a sense is no different than eating an egg which is a chicken fetus) however i dont think a true vegan....those who eat no animal products would have an abortion......and if they did they are totally contradicting themselves. i have a friend that wont even drink cows milk because she says its for nutrition for a baby cow only...she doesnt wear leather or eat eggs or any kind of meat or fish.....she eats fruits vegetables and soy products only.....and she is totally against abortion under any circumstance (as a matter of fact she has twins who are 2 and were conceived when she was raped and almost killed) alot would depend on the reason why someone was a vegetarian too...i dont believe in abortion except under extinuating circumstances (rape, severe birth defects, etc) and i am more or less a vegetarian....not because of any belief i have but because i like to eat healthy.....i eat poultry and fish but no red meat. but the 2 have nothing to do with each other in my case.

I am a vegetarian and while I do not think I could ever have an abortion myself, I (mostly) support other women's right to choose. I guess the decision to not eat an egg or a piece of chicken is easier for some people than the responsibility of bringing another person into the world? Who knows, really.
Addition: To the asker of the question, my choice to not eat meat is exactly that- my choice. It does not affect the rights or life of another person. I do not feel that I have the right to tell another human being what she can or cannot do with her own body. While I do not necessarily agree with some of the things that people do, it is not my place. I am steadfast in my own beliefs, but I am not an advocate for forcing them on other people.

I am also pro-choice. You bring up a good point. That would be contradictory for a vegetarian to get an abortion. Not to say they wouldn't, people can do things out of character when they are scared, feel alone, have nowhere to turn... the list goes on.
Another good point... before the 9th week, it is just an embryo, some may not consider that a human life yet. Although you can't argue that is is at least a living something... organism or whatever.

Very interesting question. I agree that life begins with conception, but others may not. I think it depends on the point of view of the woman considering the abortion. Also, some people choose to become vegetarians for health reasons and not a moral stance on killing other creatures.

I agree with the another person. It would depend on the personal views of the vegetarian. I think you bring up a very good point and a good one to ponder on. I have nothing against vegetarians but some of the more hardcore one have their priorities out of whack.

I agree with you. Even if the vegetarian doesn't consider a "fetus" to be a "child", that doesn't get them off the hook for this inconsistency. We know the fetus is a living creature, even if it's not a "person" - so a vegetarian would have to come up with some reason that a living, growing creature with human DNA is beneath even an animal.

wow thats a thought provoking question...how could a vegetarian protest about the life of a chicken....but lay on a table totally of her own free will and let someone wrench from her womb and kill the life she is carrying

The debate would always revert back to whether a fetus is a child (we don't all "know" despite what you say), so it would depend on the personal views of the vegetarian.
