I`m not really sure but I do know that we as individuals cannot healthily survive in isolation, I would then have to say that the mind does need parameters to asses reality and unreality against to work out what is real and what is not. It is fair to say that our senses can indeed mis lead us. Rowing a boat for example, when the oars are just under the surface they look to be twisted or an altered shape to that which in reality the are. Some things in the distance too can seem illussional. The question would be as to whether this was a trick of the mind or indeed the eyes, may be even both. It is also fair to say that unreality does not necessarily mean insanity. Especially in terms of dulluded and disordered thinking. I would have to conclude that as part of the 3 in one mind body and soul it would be hard to isolate just the mind, see think do, are all effected when we are isolated as a whole. In saying that then, no.

Indian Philosophy say quiete the opposit. When the mind is isolated from all mundane thoughts, and when the mind is devoid of all thoughts, mind shall experience bliss. Keeping the mind devoid of all thoughts is the fundamental technique of the Philosophy of Yoga, of Maharshi Patanjali. This is also called stilling the mind.
Once the mind could be stilled and be kept without any thoughts, then the mind is an effective laboratory for contemplation, to know more, just by using the mind.
Ramana Maharshi used to advice people to keep silence, and isolate the minds from all impurities.
I do not know iin what sense the asker is using the term isolation, but I tried to speak of isolation in a philosophical sense.

Definitely not! For that to be true, when we sleep, then the mind would be considered insane. When the mind is in isolation, it is not even at rest.. Rather, only unencumbered, and not at task! The mind can wander, as it does in our sleep, and move thru chambers, we have establshed in it in our awake hours, and retained by our subconcious.. Ergo, DREAMS.. By the behavior of our fellow humans, the actions of the mind during non-isolation times, would bring one to the conclusion, we are then not sane then!!

i don't agree with this statement.. i mean at least not on a short term period.. i think isolation from mundane things, from people, from routine life and issues is quite necessary.. I believe it gives time to think, of the necessities of life, and marvel in simple things. i think isolation is a blessing feeling, make meeting someone randomly during your stay-alone something quite appreciable.. there..

What makes you think any preoccupied mind on this planet is sane? It's all a matter of perspective.
