Anything you wouldn't do or say with your souse sitting right next to you is inappropriate....and hence unfaithful.

Cheating is a term normally used for an actual physical encounter with someone other than your spouse.

However, creating a sexual tension with someone else over the phone (flirting, sexual overtones, etc.) can certainly cause ire in their spouse. It shows a lack of fulfillment and may provoke feelings of jealousy and resentment.

Ask yourself how you would react if your spouse did it to you.

That said, it can drive one pretty nuts to have to toe this line. There is something to be said for not being totally anal about life and living a little. Just don't get in a situation where your spouse is next to you while you're talking on the phone.

I completely agree with Melissa on what is cheating.

But based what you told us, no. I would not consider talking to someone on the phone to be cheating on my fiance, because I do it all the time while she is in the room and so does she. Need more information for a more complete answer.

Some people need to lighten up a little and focus on threats to a relationship a bit more serious than a phone call.

Just a chat or phone sex? Is this 'someone' an ex? If the answer is yes, it's not cheating, but could be perceived as disrespectful and sketchy. Are you revealing feelings, fears, stresses, especially about your relationship on this phone call? That's emotional cheating.

Do you have feelings for this other person? Have you made plans with them? Is your spouse unaware of these conversations and this other person in your life? If you answered yes to any of those questions then yes it is cheating. It is also sneaking and lying. One does not need to have sex to be cheating on their spouse. Many things can sew distrust.

i believe that if you are doing wrong if you are developing emotional feelings for this person. an emotional affair is just as bad as physical to me...so just make sure your intentions are innocent and it should be okay.... tho i would still feel uneasy about my husband/ boyfriend all of a sudden making a new friend of the oppisite sex and having conversations with that person all the time...so just think first about how your significant other would feel if they know...then ask yourself why are you hiding this from her in the first place if you dont think what you are doing is wrong.....and finally how would you feel if you found out that she had a secret person on the phone behind your back??? just make sure that you are taking your wifes feelings into consideration too.........

i think it depends on the topic n the relationship/history between u too. if there are no hidden feelings fine, my hubby had this girl who used to send him really erotic text messages. she sent one in which she said she loves him n dreams of him every night, i spoke to him about it n he said there was nothing going on, if i didn't believe him, i should ask the sender. i woke up one morning, got her number n rang her, she panicked, apologised said there was nothing going on, n she stopped sending the messages.
