I'm in Alberta, Canada and have worked for 2 years at my job. Now all of a sudden they sent out a letter saying we cannot be employed outside of our f/t job. Can they do this. I have had a pt job for quite sometime and it doesnt affect my ft job. Is there anything I can do. I dont want to sign this contract until I know for sure, as they say having a pt job during or outside work is c ause for termination. Thanks

That is not right. Our free time should be our choice what to do. I recently told my boss I wanted to get another pt job and she said I dont think we can work around that when making out the schedule. And I was going to do it on my days off. I was also upset, but didnt know what to do. good luck

This is a very odd request but my husband worked for a police department where he had to submit a secondary employment request and get it approved before he could do a part time job.
What was their reasoning behind this? Were people calling off because they were too tired from working a part time job. Most people work part time because they need more income than they earn from their full time job not because they want to have fun working 60 hours a week. I would have a serious conversation with your employer and see if you can get a personal hardhip exception if you need the additional income.

In the USA, it would be completely legal. Employers have control over every aspect of our lives, except for camaras in the bedroom. That's probably on the way.

I am surprised that Canada is so much like the US. How did that happen?
