What started as a no swearing club at a junior high has picked up steam nationwide. Is this where we're going one day or will freedom of speech & choice somehow prevail? Does everyone think that their opinions & preferences should be made into laws these days? Am I the only one who watched the futuristic setting of Demolition Man and thought it would be a bad idea to live like that??

Bill J, therein lies the problem. I enjoy swearing for humor and emphasis on serious issues in the appropriate setting. However, I'm able to skip the swearing while at work and other places. It doesn't take much more than common sense and courtesy. There's no easy fix that will make people respectful of others. Though going to the extreme opposite of freedom of speech is definitely not the answer either.
If someone swears in front of your kid, you explain to your kid why it was inappropriate for them to do that. You don't hide your kid from it and pretend it's not there.

Owek, swear words are some of the most powerful words in our language. They're brutally honest and without sugarcoating. Yes, there's a time & place where it's best to do without them, but someone shouldn't be considered ignorant just for swearing. That's definitely the wrong answer.
