I think we are funding the war lords (northern alliance) in Afghanistan and the Sunni tribes and the Kurds in Iraq right now, so I would say we still have the same policy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

In the first place, we did not "create" the mujahideen--that was and is a movement of the Afghan people. All we dd is supply them arms to resist a foreign invader (the way Iran is doing for the insurgents in Iraq). And it did not "backfire. Following the withdrawal of the Soviets, Afghanistan was predictably in chaos. The West--including the US- failed to move in and help the Afghan people rebuild their country--no aid, no investement, pretty much nothing.

That left the Afghan people and society vulnerable to the likes o the Taliban and al-Qaida. If we (and other nations) had followed through after the Soviets left, we wouldn't have had this problem--or 9/11--in the first place.

Since our government does so many things in secret, we can't really KNOW. But, we assisted when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, cuz we wanted the Soviets to end up spending themselves to death, and anything that helped that happen, was what we tried to do. As for Al quaeda- I've always suspected that our government, or at least the CIA, made promises to Bin Laden. Then, we reneged on those promises- and gave Bin Laden a reason to hate America. Understand, I'm NOT saying this is something I KNOW, just something I suspect.

To be more correct sir we supplied them they have always existed.

The rest of your idea is pretty much right on the money.
Every time we help some people git rid of a problem then a few years later they are the new problem.
Unfortunately past events like WW 1 and 2 as well as countless other wars and genocides have taught us we can not ISOLATE from the rest of the world.
5 million dead Jews 9 million dead Russian and several million dead other undesirables scream from their graves Never Again.

As for the money part, every administration has claimed that on the one before and the one after.
Only time will judge.

the soviet invaded so as to get access to a southern , warm water port , TO SHIP OIL that had been discovered north of Afghanistan . we supplied the locals with high tech missiles that , after getting rid of the rooskis ,they turned around and used on us . our policy now is that BUSH wants to get the oil.

we always seem to create more problems with our insistence of interfering into the affairs of other countries.

Yes, we accidentally armed and trained Osama Bin Laden to fight the Russians
Yes, we sold the chemicals to Iraq that was used to gas the Kurds.
Yes, we sold the silkworm missiles to Iran that gave them missile technology
Yes, former Liberian dictator on trail for war crimes was installed as leader by the CIA.
And okay, the 200.000 guns we misplaced in Iraq are being used against us.
But I'm sure, this time todays best friend will not become next decades hated enemy

Al Qaeda were helping the muslims in Bosnia too. They also arrested some in Serbia for terrorist activity.

Not just oil. Funding or backing groups usually backfires. Research Hamas to see that we are not the only country to have our hand bitten.

You have things a bit confused. We did not start the Mujahideen. They stem from a group known as the brotherhood and have been around and a bane to the regions progress for a very long time.

As for taking the word of Putin above that of your own country well you should go live where you are comfortable. To me you are as much an enemy of my country as those whose words you wish to parrot.
