My husband is trying to get it. He says it is about somebody who draws a picture of a monster that comes to life? and they find out the only way to kill it is to destroy the picture. Sounds lame to me but it is annoying him as cannot remember the name of it?

I think it might be Paper House. I thought it was a really good film, would recommend it anyway.

...sounds like one of the segments from the campy 1995 horror anthology film "Tales from the 'Hood". In the segment, I believe the second one, a kid draws pictures of an ugly and grotesque monster he believes has hurt him, and is going to kill him; the 'monster' turns out to a brutally abusive father...a surprisingly villinous turn by David Alan Grier...who, at the end, is supernaturally killed, when his son tears, mutilates and crumples the picture...
